While the show’s premise is to bathe the cathedral in colour, it has been offering a new experience every year since 1999.
The show is in two acts; it starts with an immersive experience based on the monument’s history and on the city through the chromatic spectrum and then, the medieval polychromies of the western front are brought back to life! Chroma’s exceptional light effects reveal the cathedral in yet another, enigmatic dimension. The cathedral becomes luminous and mysterious in turn, rendering the experience fascinating and deeply moving.
Close to 590,000 people attended the first two seasons of this new show.
Designed to be an evolving show, Chroma added one more sequence in the summer of 2018 to mark the 20 years of the monument being a World Heritage Site as a staging post along the Santiago de Compostela pilgrim route in France.
The 2020 summer season of the Chroma show will open with a brand new, dreamlike scene for the octocentenary celebration of the laying of the cathedral's first stone.
